Teaching Experience

  • 13+ years of performing with a professional orchestra teaching experience in the United States
  • 25+ years of teaching experience all levels and all ages (especially elementary, middle and high school ages) in the United States
  • Students accepted into major universities including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UC Berkeley, USC, and others
  • ASTA (American String Teachers Association) member
  • Experience as an adjudicator in music evaluations and competitions

Lessons are available in Tokyo and online

  • In-person lessons near Toyocho station, Koto-ku, Tokyo
  • Online lessons via Google Meet (no time limit) or Zoom (30min. only)

FAQ

Do I need to speak Japanese?

No. Lessons can be conducted entirely in English.
Japanese support is also available if needed.


Do you teach beginners?

Yes. I teach complete beginners, including children and adults.
You do not need any prior experience.


Do you teach children, teens, and adults?

Yes. I teach all ages:

  • Children (beginner to advanced)
  • Teens (school orchestra, competitions, exams)
  • Adults (returning players and beginners)

I am staying in Japan for only a few months. Can I still take lessons?

Yes, short-term students are very welcome.
I have experience teaching students staying in Japan for 1–3 months.


Do I need my own violin?

If you already have a violin, please bring it. If not, please try one of my instruments during your first lesson. Currently, full size violin and 3/4 size violin are availble. Choosing a violin for purchase can be difficult without knowledge and experience. I can help you select or rent an appropriate instrument after we start lessons.


Are online lessons available?

Yes. Online lessons are available via Google Meet (preferred) or Zoom.


What level do you teach?

From complete beginners to advanced students preparing for orchestra, auditions, or exams.


What is your teaching style?

I focus on structured learning, clear technical foundations, and long-term musical growth.
