The 4th finger for the harmonics / Monti Czardas

Vittorio Monti (1868-1922) is an Italian composer, whose Cardas (1904) is a well known piece based on Hungarian csardas, traditional folk dance which starts slowly and ends in a very fast tempo written in 4/4 or 2/4.

Question from my student:

Does the 4th finger need to be curved when one plays the harmonics?

My answer:

It is very interesting and good question!

When one is playing the harmonics, we use the pad of the finger, not the tip, so naturally the 4th finger becomes very straight.
